Buying a new car can be a very exciting process. If you're ready to purchase the Toyota model you've been considering all year, we want to make sure you're prepared for the buying process before you come to the dealership. To ensure the process runs as smoothly as possible, we've made a list of items to bring with you to Spartan Toyota. Check out our list below to learn more.

1. Your driver's license.

For proper identification when filling out paperwork, make sure to bring your license with you. However, if you’ve taken the vehicle for a test-drive before, the dealership may have your license on file.

2. Your Social Security number.

Bring your social security card with you if you don't have the number memorized. Even if you are paying for the vehicle outright without financing, the dealer will still need your Social for tax purposes. Almost every financial transaction valued over $10,000 is required to be reported to the IRS.

3. Proof of car insurance.

You won't be able to make a purchase without this crucial piece of paper. Laws exist in every state that require drivers to provide some kind of car insurance because it protects everyone on the road.

4. Your wallet.

Whether you plan to pay through financing, cash, cashier’s check or credit card, you need to be prepared to make the purchase. There are many payment options to choose from, and depending on how much your car is worth, it's best to plan for how you'll pay for your vehicle ahead of time. If you choose to lease, you should expect to pay some kind of a down payment.

5. Proof of employment, residence and salary.

Depending on your credit rating, you may need to bring proof of employment, residence and salary.

6. A few hours to fill out all of the paperwork.

Expect that the process will take some time. It can be a lengthy process, especially if you're applying for financing.

For trading in your old car you'll need:

7. A trade-in appraisal.

Typically, you'll have an appraisal performed on location at the dealership you're trading your car in to. Usually, an appraisal will be good for up to three days.

8. Your old car's title:

You'll have to turn over your old car's title since you're releasing ownership of the vehicle once you trade it in.
